Plans For The Near Future

Club business now.

We need to discuss next year's topics at the meeting. If you do not have anything else to contribute, please bring along candidate lists of topics, titles and authors that you would like us to discuss during August.

Those of you who cannot make it August - email me your lists pronto! If you don't mention it, you won't see it - and if I don't get any replies in August, I am reserving the right to set all the topics for 2013.

Lets you forget - next month's meeting is on August 11, 14:00 - 15:30, in Chester Library, in the Training Room on the first floor of the premises in Northgate Street. The topic is "Magic and Sorcery," and apart from whatever else you might bring, the meeting will be discussing and reviewing one book in particular: "A Wizard of Earthsea," by Ursula K leGuin.

I will be posting reminders on this blog and in the Facebook group, as well as on my personal FB accounts, every Friday from now on until the last Friday before the meeting. So that would be July 27th, August 3rd and August 10th.

Don't say you haven't been given enough time.

The next essay blog post will cover the topic of Shapeshifting for the topic of Magic and Sorcery, and it will be some time next week. Again, watch for it.

Done here. Next post will be the reminder post this Friday. Get on with reading "A Wizard of Earthsea," peeps. Thanks.

  1. Apologies in advance for Aug 11. I'm with my good wife on the IOM for a few days.
It's difficult to enumerate original topics in SFF that we haven't touched on but three I wouldn't mind visiting (again in some cases) are
    1. Technological Singularity – eg Vernor Vinge
    2. Parallel Worlds – multiverses.
    3. Post-apocalyptic Earth, but not necessarily dystopia

  2. Thanks, Geoff. These three suggestions have now been noted, and at least one of them is likely to appear as one of the topics for 2013.

I've now emailed the other core members to let them know.

You and the Mrs enjoy the Isle of Man. Safe voyages.
