Marvellous Technologies v 2.0

What do we mean by "marvellous technologies?"

For the purpose of the May 19th meeting, this means any sort of technology that is a marvel, or creates a wondrous effect.

Let's look at some definitions.

Marvellous

1. causing great wonder, surprise, etc.; extraordinary
2. improbable or incredible
3. Causing wonder or astonishment.
4. Miraculous; supernatural.
Marvel
n. mar·vel
1. One that evokes surprise, admiration, or wonder.
2. Strong surprise; astonishment.
v. mar·vel
To become filled with wonder or astonishment.
v.tr.
To feel amazement or bewilderment at or about: We marveled that they walked away unhurt from the car accident.

Technology

a. The application of science, especially to industrial or commercial objectives.
b. The scientific method and material used to achieve a commercial or industrial objective.
2. Electronic or digital products and systems considered as a group: a store specializing in office technology.
3. Anthropology The body of knowledge available to a society that is of use in fashioning implements, practicing manual arts and skills, and extracting or collecting materials.
The root of skill and science, applied in ways that cause bewilderment and a sense of  wonder and marvel. In other words, awesome stuff.

In the runup to the meeting on the 19th, this blog will look at some of the driving forces behind SF and fantasy works geared around marvellous technologies.
